Asset-Based and Earnings-Based Valuation Tools and Their Applicability
Date: 4 May 2017
Time: 4:30–5:30 p.m. IST (7:00 a.m. EDT)
Speaker: Baijnath Ramraika, CFA
CE credit: 1 CE credit
In this webinar, we will discuss valuation frameworks based on assets and earnings and their applicability based on classification of the business as "moat" or "non-moat". A moat business, owing to its sustainable competitive advantage, creates significant value over and above the value of assets employed in the business and thus needs to be valued based off of its income stream. Baijnath Ramraika, CFA, will present a practitioner's perspective on these valuation approaches through the examples of the Colgate-Palmolive company and ACC Limited.
Baijnath is the CEO & CIO at Multi-Act EquiGlobe Limited and co-manages the Global Moats Fund (GMF). GMF is a long-only equity fund that invests in a portfolio of high-quality businesses globally.
Baijnath writes on several investment and other topics of interest to him. Baij’s author page at SSRN lists some of his research papers, including his research papers on high-quality stocks. With George (Yiorgos) Allayannis, Baij co-authored an academic case study (Comerica Incorporated: The Valuation Dilemma) and a technical note (Bank Valuation Issues).
Baijnath earned his MBA from Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia in 2009 where he was the Sr. Portfolio Manager of the Cavalier fund at Darden Capital Management (DCM). In 2004, he finished completing all three levels of the CFA Program at CFA Institute and is a CFA charterholder. He earned his chartered accountant qualification in 2001 from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) with a 41st rank in the final examinations on an all-over India basis.
